About P'anne . . .
Phyllis (phyllis anne or p'anne), emanates from a creative family in the midwest. After studying fine art in college, she traveled solo throughout the United States in a Volkswagen convertible, studying art, drama & psychology in 3 universities. Focusing on psychology & human nature, she earned a master's degree in counseling from Santa Clara University in California.
Residing on both coasts, Phyllis focused on raising her children in California. She owned & operated a clinic practicing marriage & family counseling. Concurrently, while teaching & presenting at conferences around the world, she explored art museums, galleries and private art studios. In 2009, she founded her own art studio & retail gallery in downtown Campbell, CA. Now, from her studio in San Jose, CA, she exhibits in the Bay Area & throughout the US. Her evolving style, influenced by life story & nature, is primarily abstract & abstract expressionist.

Thoughts. Experiences. Inspiration.
My first memories are of making art with my artist grandmother. I loved movies & theater. Studying drama & art in college, I identified with behind-the-scenes action & grunge of theater. I am still moved by the story & drama of people’s lives. My work envelops the good, the bad & ugly of the lived in world. The order & disorder, peace & chaos of nature & humanity, are reflected in my work. What I aim to convey is the delicious ways we overcome obstacles, find peace in the midst of confusion, love in the disarray of disagreement & congruence with ourselves. The necessary wabi-sabi of life, making something new of the old, honoring the time worn while encouraging a spontaneity so easy to lose, is what I hope to capture in my work. How I live is how I create.
The visual narrative of my art, winds its way in, surprising me & hopefully the viewer. During the creative process, I let go & enter what feels like a trance-like state. It is then my best work emerges. It is a triumph when the painting seems to paint itself revealing surprising stories or feelings & deeper secrets emanating from the unconscious in me, transforming in the reflected experience of the viewer.
Releasing ego, perfectionism & fear of exposure, I enter the creative arena. The process feels mysterious, vulnerable, & even sacred. In the arena, the work begins. The creative process unfolds, a contrast of chaos & order weaves its way into the heart of my work. At best, resulting images act as a Rorschach igniting internal conversations between viewer & image, enlivening dormant mysteries, sparking an awareness of precious aliveness. I like the quotation:
"While creating, artists are literally out of their minds'
